after the fire

My Four Star review:

After the Fire is the first book I’ve read by Mary J Williams and I’m looking forward to reading the other novels in this series.

Gaige Benson stole my heart in the very first chapter.  At the age of 13 he found a football and taught himself how to throw it. Kids from Brooklyn didn’t dream of big and better but things changed for Gaige after he sent a football sailing into a strangers hands.  From that day forward football meant everything to Gaige.  He played in high school, got a full football scholarship to Yale and was the first pick in the NFL draft.  Things were right on track for this talented, smart, good looking young man.

Violet Reed has dreams of her own and the big one is becoming a doctor.  A chance meeting sends the ball sailing in this very well written story.  It’s full of emotion, laughs, friendship, football and of course love.

If you enjoy a nice “second chance love” kind of story, then definitely pick up this book.

More About After the Fire:

“In his lifetime, Gaige Benson has dreamed of only two things. Playing football and Violet Reed.
WELCOME TO THE NFL
The Seattle Knights have the hottest players in the game. On and off the field.
Second Chances. First Love.
Gaige Benson is the NFL’s golden boy. He’s done it all. Won every award. Except that elusive Super Bowl ring. This year he is hanging up his cleats and he plans on going out a winner.
Even a golden boy has secrets. Will Gaige’s past be the one thing that derails his future?
Violet Reed almost lost it all. Her sight, her dreams of becoming a doctor, and the only man she ever loved. A miracle saved the first two. Sixteen years later she is getting her second chance at love.
Secrets kept them apart. Will the truth separate them forever?”

Who is Alice England?

For the past few months I’ve been asking you, “Who is Alice England?”

Well, I subscribed to her mailing list and I got this e-mail this morning.  I wanted to share it with you in hopes you will follow along, help me find the secret surprises and determine exactly what Alice is up to.

who is alice funeral

 Message from Alice England:

Hello Again,

Can you guess what I have been doing over the past few weeks? I’ve been making a website for my father’s business.

I’m proud of my family’s company, England’s Funeral Parlor. My Great-Uncle Maurice changed the name to Tranquility Funerals in the 1990s but I prefer the original name. When I take over the business one day, I think I will probably change it back.

When I’m not studying or at school, I have a part time job at the funeral parlor. It’s my role to arrange trinkets and mementos on the bodies, to pass out sprigs of rosemary at funerals, and to serve drinks at the post-service tea. It’s a nice job. Much better than working at a fast food outlet like the other kids in the senior year at Damascus Cove High. The things people give us to place in the casket with their loved ones can be very interesting.

I do hope you will visit our website and click on some of the things you see, as you never know what secret surprises are hiding behind the obvious. The website is here:www.englandsfuneralparlor.com

Double Down (Ozark Magic #1) by N. J. Young

Double Down by N.J. Young is a Contemporary Romance Ménage with a Mystery and Suspense story that will keep you turning the pages.

It is recommended for adult readers and can be read as a standalone novel.

double down

My Four Star Review:

Double Down is a very hot and sexy erotica ménage with a really wonderful suspense story thrown in. I absolutely adored Izzy and the brothers Graham and Chris. I will admit, there were several times I wanted to smack Graham in the head for being an idiot but I did love the idiot.

The mystery was action packed with an ending that revealed some interesting stuff. Overall, it was a well written, fasted paced story, with characters that kept me turning the pages.

This is the first book I’ve read by NJ but it will not be the last.  I would highly recommend Double Down and look forward to reading more from this author.

Book 2 – Fierce Temper – Tess and Milo’s story is available now.

More about Double Down:

“Izzy Craig might live in a town called Magic, but her life is anything but. After nursing her beloved grandfather, he has passed away, leaving her to manage a busy lake resort and an unrequited crush on the town’s sheriff, Graham Nolan. Things start to look up when Graham’s estranged brother Chris comes to town. If she can’t have one handsome Nolan man, maybe his twin will do.

Graham’s feelings for Izzy have always been complicated . . . and intense. When he realizes that his brother has encroached on his territory, he’s not sure if he can deal. They’ve tried sharing a woman before, and that ended in heartache for everyone. But when Izzy’s sketchy uncle enters the picture, Graham’s cop senses go on high alert. He may very well have to trust his brother, Izzy, and himself, if he wants to keep the woman he loves safe.”

Curious Minds (A Knight-Moon Novel #1) by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton

Curious Minds by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton is a Romantic Comedy with some mystery and the first book in A Night-Moon series.

I recommended this book for readers 16 years and older.

Curious Minds is available August 16, 2016.

CuriousmindsBanner

My FIVE Star Review:

I love a well written romantic comedy that makes me laugh right out loud and Curious Minds totally fit the bill.  You first meet Riley Moon, a 28 year old Harvard Business and Harvard Law school graduate working as a junior analyst for a large mega bank.  It’s her second week of work and she is tasked with visiting Emerson Knight, the owner of the biggest mansion in Washington, DC, who also recently inherited his family fortune.  The kicker is, everyone considers him a “nutcase.”  What’s her job?  Convince Mr. Night that his fortune is perfectly safe within their bank.

Riley literally walks into the eccentric and aloof Emerson Knight and what are her first words? “Crap on a cracker.”  Emerson is gorgeous, 6ft 2in of lean man, wavy dark hair, dark eyes and looking like a romance cover model come to life.  When Emerson apologized to Riley for her stabbing him in the foot with her high heel shoe by saying, “Entirely my fault.  I was exercising my power to cloud your mind, so you couldn’t see me.,”  I knew I was going to love this character!  Emerson’s dialog is so very entertaining that it alone keep me turning the pages.

These two characters go on an adventure with several twits and turns and amazing additional characters in between.  I enjoyed Curious Minds so much I truly didn’t want it to end and I’m looking forward to reading more adventures with Riley and Emerson.  I would highly recommend this book.

About Curious Minds:

“Emerson Knight is introverted, eccentric, and has little to no sense of social etiquette. Good thing he’s also brilliant, rich, and (some people might say) handsome, or he’d probably be homeless. Riley Moon has just graduated from Harvard Business and Harvard Law. Her aggressive Texas spitfire attitude has helped her land her dream job as a junior analyst with mega-bank Blane-Grunwald. At least Riley Moon thought it was her dream job, until she is given her first assignment: babysitting Emerson Knight.

What starts off as an inquiry about missing bank funds in the Knight account leads to inquiries about a missing man, missing gold, and a life-and-death race across the country. Through the streets of Washington, D.C., and down into the underground vault of the Federal Reserve in New York City, an evil plan is exposed. A plan so sinister that only a megalomaniac could think it up, and only the unlikely duo of the irrepressibly charming Emerson Knight and the tenacious Riley Moon can stop it.”

Thoughts about: You by Caroline Kepnes

You by Caroline Kepnes is a mystery suspense psychological thriller so chilling you can’t help but keep turning the pages!

Recommended for readers 18 years and older.

Thoughts by Leisha: Five Stars!

I LOVED this book. I can honestly say that this has become one of my favorite books of all time. ‘You’ centers around Joe Goldberg who works at a bookstore in NYC, which is where he meets Guinevere Beck or just Beck as her friends call her. Beck is an aspiring writer and lives and breathes social media. I don’t want to say too much more and spoil anything about this book – it’s just THAT good. One of the things I really enjoy about this book is that it’s told from Joe’s POV, which makes it deliciously creepy. You feel like you’re right next to him, watching and listening to everything going on and everything’s he’s doing.

There is another book after this one titled ‘Hidden Bodies’ but I HIGHLY recommend reading ‘You’ first. I also own the Audible version. As a matter of fact, I joined Audible just to get this book! It’s most definitely a must-read!

More about You:

“When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card.

There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight—the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.

As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way—even if it means murder.”
