City Beautiful by CM Foss

city beautiful

About City Beautiful:

“Patrick Thompson is all city, all the time. A young doctor, once full of passion, now disillusioned by the practice, he sets off across the country, intent on a small breather before a fresh start.
Ivy Lang loves the country way. So much so that she’s created a place where others can experience her ideas of the fundamentals for both mind and body. The life is perfect for her, carefully cultivated by her own hands.
He’s waiting for something to inspire him.
She finds inspiration all around her.
But when a chance meeting turns their worlds upside down, can they come together to create something beautiful?”

My Five Star Review:

City Beautiful is a very touching love story and emotional journey between two characters (Ivy and Patrick) who couldn’t be more different, or are they?  (City Beautiful is a Romantic Comedy suitable for readers 18+)

I really enjoyed Ivy.  She is a free spirit kind of woman who focuses on all the positives in life.  She built herself an amazing life she truly enjoys and wants to share with others.  Patrick is a doctor and your typical “city” guy who ends up at Ivy’s farm and it changes his life.

Patrick: “She was the king of beautiful I’d expect to see back home.  City Beautiful. Except there was nothing city about her.”

Ivy: “Come with me.  I’m gonna make you the best meal you’ve ever had.  It’s gonna change your life.”

Their emotional journey drew me in and didn’t let me go until I got to the end of the book. Trust me, you will absolutely love this story so pick it up today.

This is the first book I’ve read by CM Foss but it will definitely not be the last.

What Happens At Christmas by Jay Northcote

what happens at christmas

What Happens at Christmas is an extremely touching and well written gay romance by Jay Northcote.  It is intended for readers 18+.

About the Book:

“When two friends pose as boyfriends, could what happens at Christmas turn into something more?
Justin is recently and unhappily single. Christmas is coming, and he doesn’t want to face his ex alone at their office party. So Sean—Justin’s best mate and long-time secret crush—volunteers to go with him and pretend to be his new flame.
Sean has always lusted after Justin from afar, but there’s never been a good opportunity to ask him for more than friendship. Posing as Justin’s boyfriend isn’t a chore, and if Justin wants to rebound onto him, Sean’s more than willing. At the party pretence and reality blur, and a kiss on the dance floor leads to a night of passion.
In the aftermath, they both assume it was a one-time thing until fate intervenes. Stuck together in London over the holidays, they give in to temptation again. But what happens at Christmas stays at Christmas… right?”

My Five Star Review:

What Happens at Christmas is a perfect book for the Christmas season.  It is well written, it revolves around Christmas, and it is a short/fast read.  Be warned, it contains some very steamy sex between two men in love.

Best friends since they were 7 years old, Sean and Justin reconnect and end up together right before Christmas. Will the love they’ve had for each other finally blossom into forever love?  Find out by picking this book up today!

Downfall (The Incorruptibles Book 1) by SD Wasley

Downfall-Customdesign-JayAheer2015-3Drender

Downfall is an amazing first book in SD Wasley’s New Adult Paranormal Romance Series, The Incorruptibles.  (Recommended for readers 16+.)

Downfall releases January 7, 2016.

About Downfall:

“Frankie’s cousin wants her to do three things this year:
1. Lose her inhibitions
2. Do something spectacularly stupid
3. Fall madly in love
Travelling was Frankie’s life. As the daughter of a big-name evangelist, she’s been able to feed her hunger for new sights throughout most of her teenage years. Then a hushed-up scandal gets her thrown off the tour circuit and stuck at her uncle’s house in the town of Augur’s Well.
Forced to repeat her failed senior year, it looks like a dismal existence for Frankie—until she’s invited to the bizarre meeting place of four mismatched people … and falls hard for the fascinating, secretive Cain Aleister.
Furtive meetings in an underground chamber … Latin words carved into a stone wall … intense desire … and a secret so elusive she’ll do almost anything to bust it open. Until now, Frankie never believed in grand passions—but that’s not the only one of her beliefs about to implode right before her eyes.
Looks like Frankie’s going to score three for three.”

My Five Star Review:

Six words, “Hey Frankie, come for a ride?” That was all it took in the very first chapter, Omen, to get me completely and totally hooked on this book.  Those six words started my sleepless night and I ended up with the biggest book hangover.  Yes, it was that intriguing.  From the very beginning SD had me wondering what the heck was going on.  I tried desperately to figure it out but every time I thought I had it, SD threw me a curve ball.  Her characters are well developed, her descriptions are so detailed you can actually see each scene unfold in your mind and when secrets are finally revealed it’s an “oh wow” moment.

There are several pieces of art work in the book  by Trevor O’Sullivan that are truly stunning.

By the time I reached the last chapter, Amen, I was totally addicted to this series and was very grateful the next installment would be out in March 2016.

Wicked Edge (The Realm Enforcers Book 2) by Rebecca Zanetti

wicked edge

An absolutely amazing second book in The Realm Enforcer series which is a spin-off of Rebecca’s Dark Protector (DP) series.  You can certainly read this series without having read the DP series, but I would highly recommend reading it.  Many of my old favorites from DP make an appearance in this new series.  Wicked Edge is a paranormal romance intended for readers 18 and over.

About Wicked Edge:

“Daire Dunne is more than ready to take a quick break from his duties as a Coven Nine Enforcer. When he spots a sexy blonde across a Titan’s of Fire party, it’s not long before she’s on the back of his Harley on the fast track to his apartment. Unfortunately, one overheated kiss in, the woman drugs Daire and steals valuable files that can’t fall into enemy hands. The second he comes to, the hunt is on…
Now that Cee Cee has the information to take down an enemy that destroyed her family, she can implement her perfect plan for revenge. Nothing will stop her, not even a shockingly sexy enforcer barging into her life. Not even the spectacular, fire-branding sex engulfing them. But if Daire ever figures out who her family really is, all bets are off…”

My Five Star Review:

Book 2 starts where book 1 left off so definitely pick up Wicked Ride and read it first.  This series revolves around the Dunne brothers, Daire, Adam and Kellach (main character in Wicked Ride.) The brothers happen to be witches and Enforcers for the Coven Nine.  They are sent to Seattle to infiltrate a Motorcycle Club, find the manufacturer of the deadly drug (Apollo) currently being sold to humans and being used against witches.

From the very first chapter, I knew Daire was in deep trouble.  He meets Cee Cee at the MC bar, falls pretty hard basically at first sight, takes her back to his penthouse for a little Dunne style loving and ends up being drugged by the beautiful blonde.  Yep, strong, determined, powerful, beautiful, Cee Cee had me moving right on to chapter 2.  By the time I reached Chapter 9, I was absolutely in love with Daire and I wanted to be strong, determined, Cee Cee.  Then one word was said at the end of Chapter 9 and I just about dropped by Kindle.  I honestly did NOT see that coming.  Bravo to Rebecca and this amazing twist of fate.  At this point, I couldn’t help but consume the rest of the book.

In true Rebecca style, this book is fast paced, action packed, filled with special appearances by the characters I love in the DP series and of course a happily ever after.  I’ve already pre-order my copy of the next book, Wicked Burn.

Destiny (Montana Dreams Series Book 2) by Cait Jarrod

destiny

I had the privilege of receiving an advanced reader copy of Destiny from Cait Jarrod.  It’s her second New Adult book in the Montana Dreams Series and can be read as a standalone but Divine was so good, you should read that as well. (recommended 17+) Destiny releases December 14, 2015

About the Book:

“With the exception of one dear friend who treats her like a daughter, Autumn Wilcox keeps her heart closed off to others. Now this friend struggles with her last breaths and makes a request—for Autumn to find the elusive rainbow that will reveal her destiny. She doesn’t have faith in such tales, but for her friend, she agrees and seeks a pilot to take her to Bluebird Valley, Montana.
After the death of his parents and his brother’s war injury, Travis Carson withdraws and his heart goes numb. He dives into work until his brother settles in Montana because of Travis’ insistence to carry out their parents’ dream of living in the mountains. He quits his search and rescue job to purse his vision of opening a scenic tour business in Montana. So, when friends ask him on his last day of the job to give a woman a ride to the Big Sky Country state, he agrees. Simple, easily done, but the swirl of energy radiating off her has him agreeing and doing things out of his norm. He can no longer push away his feelings to protect his heart. He wants more.”

My Five Star Review:

Travis has been taking care of Matt and saving people all his life especially in his search and rescue job but now it’s time for him to step back and think about himself for a change.  So what’s he going to do? Travis heads to Montana to start a new life right next to his brother, Matt and his new wife, Trina.  But before he reaches his plane to fly out, in walks free spirted Autumn who instantly turns his world upside down.  Autumn’s dear friend gave her a quest, go to Montana, climb a mountain and find the rainbow.  So … Autumn will do whatever it takes to get onto Travis’s plane and to Montana.

The chemistry between Travis and Autumn is so instant, you literally feel it in every word Cait writes.  It’s not what the characters actually say to each other but their feelings and descriptions on their faces that make you believe it.  Their story will make you laugh out loud one minute and want to give out hugs the next.  Travis and Autumn have been through so much in their lives that you can’t help but cheer them on.   There is one particular bedroom scene with Travis, Autumn’s pet, and Autumn that literally had me in tears.  I’m talking tears of laughter.

This book is a feel good New Adult romance with of course a very happily ever after.  I highly recommend this book.

The Montana Dreams Series:

Divine, #1: November 23, 2015
Destiny, #2: December 14, 2015
Desire, #3: January 18, 2016

The Seventh (Book 1) by SD Wasley

the seventh

About the Book:

This is a Young Adult Paranormal and the first novel written by SD Wasley.  It is written with the young teen in mind but let me just say, as a 40+ year old, I could not put it down.

“Sixteen year old Mimi Alston has company. No less than three ghosts follow her around, and only she can see them. At her last school, she was known as the girl with imaginary friends. Now Mimi’s starting fresh in a new town, where she’s determined to make some real friends and fit in for once. She’s ready for a normal life…except Mimi never counted on her fascination with troubled goth-boy, Drew.   When she’s invited to join the elite Gifted Program, Mimi discovers she’s not the only one at the school with an unusual talent. Maybe being normal isn’t even an option anymore.”

My Five Star Review:

I first stumbled across SD Wasley in Summer Crush the Young Adult Anthology, which I read and reviewed here back in August 2015.  Since I enjoyed her story, I searched around and found her first novel, The Seventh.  This was a fast paced, action packed and an extremely well detailed story revolving around 7 young adults.  So much happened throughout the story it kept me engaged and I really didn’t want to put it down.  Mimi, who narrates the story, and Drew are the main characters but the other 5 kids play a huge role.  Mimi may be living with seeing ghosts but this was much more than just a ghost story.  There was a crush or two, a lot of paranormal activity, first love and the start of some great friendships.  This book definitely left me wanting more and I’m extremely glad book two, The Rift, came out today, November 6, 2015.  I would highly recommend this book for readers 13+.

Making Faces by Amy Harmon

making faces

My Five Star Review:

This was another amazing story by Amy Harmon and her fifth published book two years ago.  Everyone should pick up Making Faces and read it today.  I have truly enjoyed every one of Amy’s books, that I’ve read so far, but this book and the character of Bailey really moved me and touched my heart and soul.

Making Faces had just about everything:  young love, unrequited love, a shy girl, a popular girl, BFF’s, a sports hero, world tragedy, a war hero, life altering decision, a community bonded, domestic violence and above all Love and Family.

I’m not lying when I say everyone should read this story.  It is so much more than I’m describing and it will stop and make you think about your life and how you want to live it.

Amy has a way of grabbing a hold of you, pulling you in and not letting you go until she has changed your heart, body, and soul.  Thank you, Amy, for your words.  I look forward to your next book.

About the Book:

“Ambrose Young was beautiful. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She’d been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have…until he wasn’t beautiful anymore.

Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl’s love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior’s love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.”

Two of my favorite Quotes:

“This last year I’ve felt like one of those snowflakes we used to make in school.  The one where you fold the paper a certain way and then keep cutting and cutting until the paper is shredded.  That’s what I look like, a paper snowflake.  And each hole has a name.  And nobody, not you, not me, can fill the holes that someone else has left.  All we can do is keep each other from falling in the holes and never coming out again.”

“True beauty, the kind that doesn’t fade or wash off, takes time.  It takes pressure.  It takes incredible endurance.  It is the slow drip that makes the stalactite, the shaking of the Earth that creates mountains, the constant pounding of the waves that breaks up the rocks and smooths the rough edges.  And from the violence, the furor, the raging of the winds, the roaring of the waters, something better emerges, something that would otherwise never exit.”
