Destiny (Montana Dreams Series Book 2) by Cait Jarrod

destiny

I had the privilege of receiving an advanced reader copy of Destiny from Cait Jarrod.  It’s her second New Adult book in the Montana Dreams Series and can be read as a standalone but Divine was so good, you should read that as well. (recommended 17+) Destiny releases December 14, 2015

About the Book:

“With the exception of one dear friend who treats her like a daughter, Autumn Wilcox keeps her heart closed off to others. Now this friend struggles with her last breaths and makes a request—for Autumn to find the elusive rainbow that will reveal her destiny. She doesn’t have faith in such tales, but for her friend, she agrees and seeks a pilot to take her to Bluebird Valley, Montana.
After the death of his parents and his brother’s war injury, Travis Carson withdraws and his heart goes numb. He dives into work until his brother settles in Montana because of Travis’ insistence to carry out their parents’ dream of living in the mountains. He quits his search and rescue job to purse his vision of opening a scenic tour business in Montana. So, when friends ask him on his last day of the job to give a woman a ride to the Big Sky Country state, he agrees. Simple, easily done, but the swirl of energy radiating off her has him agreeing and doing things out of his norm. He can no longer push away his feelings to protect his heart. He wants more.”

My Five Star Review:

Travis has been taking care of Matt and saving people all his life especially in his search and rescue job but now it’s time for him to step back and think about himself for a change.  So what’s he going to do? Travis heads to Montana to start a new life right next to his brother, Matt and his new wife, Trina.  But before he reaches his plane to fly out, in walks free spirted Autumn who instantly turns his world upside down.  Autumn’s dear friend gave her a quest, go to Montana, climb a mountain and find the rainbow.  So … Autumn will do whatever it takes to get onto Travis’s plane and to Montana.

The chemistry between Travis and Autumn is so instant, you literally feel it in every word Cait writes.  It’s not what the characters actually say to each other but their feelings and descriptions on their faces that make you believe it.  Their story will make you laugh out loud one minute and want to give out hugs the next.  Travis and Autumn have been through so much in their lives that you can’t help but cheer them on.   There is one particular bedroom scene with Travis, Autumn’s pet, and Autumn that literally had me in tears.  I’m talking tears of laughter.

This book is a feel good New Adult romance with of course a very happily ever after.  I highly recommend this book.

Divine’s Blurb:
Matt Carson and Trina Lovett befriend each other during turbulent times at a young age. Over the years, their friendship strengthens building a strong, unbreakable bond. At least that is what they believe. Life choices put an ocean between them, and the depth of their bond is tested.
Under the stress of being apart, heart-wrenching events leave them plagued with doubt. Danger forces them to make irrefutable decisions about what they want from life.

Divine’s Book Trailer:

Divine Excerpt:
Matt’s throat clogged, and tears burned his eyes. He waited so long, wanted her so much, he couldn’t move, couldn’t process what he saw. Didn’t know what he felt. He’d longed to pull her into his arms, hold, and kiss her until they both melted into a pile. Now that she was here, he couldn’t. Too many unanswered questions.

Moisture covered her cheeks and chin. A god-awful sound escaped her. “Matt,” she said through her hands and sobbing. “Oh, God, Matt!” But she didn’t move.

Jeez, he wanted her. “Trina,” he said again, too shocked to think of anything else. He dreamed, hoped she’d come to him, and still, in his wildest imagination, he didn’t believe the day would ever arrive. Bradley told him she was doing better. He thanked the stars every night, but he didn’t go to her. Couldn’t, not with how callously the Lovetts treated him. She had to decide what she wanted. He wouldn’t push it. No matter how much he wanted her, he wouldn’t impede on her relationship with her parents. By no means were they nice, and he questioned their motives more than once, but they were her parents. At least she had them.

“I have so much to explain, so much to tell you.”

His body zinged from the desperation in her voice and came to life. “I want to hear every word.” He couldn’t resist touching her and moved forward. His desire to reach her crashed into him with such force, any minute he’d leap and land on top of her. “But first—”

Downfall (The Incorruptibles 1)

by S.D. Wasley

Release Date: January 7, 2016

Summary:

From Amazon bestselling author S.D. Wasley comes her first work of (new) adult paranormal romance perfect for lovers of Lauren Kate’s Fallen and the Richelle Mead’s Bloodlines series.

Frankie’s cousin wants her to do three things this year:

1. Lose her inhibitions
2. Do something spectacularly stupid
3. Fall madly in love

Travelling was Frankie’s life. As the daughter of a big-name evangelist, she’s been able to feed her hunger for new sights throughout most of her teenage years. Then a hushed-up scandal gets her thrown off the tour circuit and stuck at her uncle’s house in the town of Augur’s Well.

Forced to repeat her failed senior year, it looks like a dismal existence for Frankie—until she’s invited to the bizarre meeting place of four mismatched people … and falls hard for the fascinating, secretive Cain Aleister.

Furtive meetings in an underground chamber … Latin words carved into a stone wall … intense desire … and a secret so elusive she’ll do almost anything to bust it open. Until now, Frankie never believed in grand passions—but that’s not the only one of her beliefs about to implode right before her eyes.

Looks like Frankie’s going to score three for three.

Dagger (The D.U.S.T. Ops: Mission Book 1) by Steven Dos Santos

dagger

About the Book:

The character of Dagger sucked me in from the very first chapter and took me on a heck of an adventure through his amazing world of espionage.  This book is a Young Adult, Science Fiction, Action Packed, Romantic Adventure suitable for ages 13+.

“When Ultimate Evil engulfs the entire world, only Dagger can pierce the Darkness—even if the Apocalypse falls on a school night!   Dagger Beaumont is a High School senior who’s been recruited by D.U.S.T.—a covert governmental organization dedicated to battling supernatural terrorism all over the globe.
However, Dagger’s unresolved conflict over his missing brother could be his undoing, as he races around the world battling the Dark Reich, a diabolical organization on a quest to possess an ancient artifact and unleash a mystical plague to enslave humanity. If that weren’t treacherous enough, Dagger must juggle his life as a secret agent with his social life, where he faces romantic rivalry for the guy of his dreams, a mysterious and handsome new student at his haunted boarding school.
But in a high-stakes world where nothing is as it seems, and death lurks in every shadow, love rides shotgun with survival!”

My Four Star Review:

Seventeen year old Agent Daguerre “Dagger” Beaumont works for the organization called “The Department of Unexpected Supernatural Terrorism.   Here are a few things you should now about Dagger.  He’s starting his senior year of high school, he has two amazing BFF’s he would do anything for but he can’t tell them he works for DUST, his brother Phillipe is missing, his relationship with his mother is strained, and he happens to be gay.   Just your typical teenager.

I absolutely love the character of Dagger.  He may only be 17 years old but he is an amazing leading man.  He’s fun, loyal, witty, and you can’t help but laugh with him.  He kicks butt on numerous occasions while still dealing with school, seeing his friends and maybe falling in love with the new kid.  This book is action packed but with many twists and turns that keep you guessing.  I am absolutely looking forward to Mission 2 and reading more by Steven Dos Santos.  I would highly recommend this book.

The Seventh (Book 1) by SD Wasley

the seventh

About the Book:

This is a Young Adult Paranormal and the first novel written by SD Wasley.  It is written with the young teen in mind but let me just say, as a 40+ year old, I could not put it down.

“Sixteen year old Mimi Alston has company. No less than three ghosts follow her around, and only she can see them. At her last school, she was known as the girl with imaginary friends. Now Mimi’s starting fresh in a new town, where she’s determined to make some real friends and fit in for once. She’s ready for a normal life…except Mimi never counted on her fascination with troubled goth-boy, Drew.   When she’s invited to join the elite Gifted Program, Mimi discovers she’s not the only one at the school with an unusual talent. Maybe being normal isn’t even an option anymore.”

My Five Star Review:

I first stumbled across SD Wasley in Summer Crush the Young Adult Anthology, which I read and reviewed here back in August 2015.  Since I enjoyed her story, I searched around and found her first novel, The Seventh.  This was a fast paced, action packed and an extremely well detailed story revolving around 7 young adults.  So much happened throughout the story it kept me engaged and I really didn’t want to put it down.  Mimi, who narrates the story, and Drew are the main characters but the other 5 kids play a huge role.  Mimi may be living with seeing ghosts but this was much more than just a ghost story.  There was a crush or two, a lot of paranormal activity, first love and the start of some great friendships.  This book definitely left me wanting more and I’m extremely glad book two, The Rift, came out today, November 6, 2015.  I would highly recommend this book for readers 13+.

Making Faces by Amy Harmon

making faces

My Five Star Review:

This was another amazing story by Amy Harmon and her fifth published book two years ago.  Everyone should pick up Making Faces and read it today.  I have truly enjoyed every one of Amy’s books, that I’ve read so far, but this book and the character of Bailey really moved me and touched my heart and soul.

Making Faces had just about everything:  young love, unrequited love, a shy girl, a popular girl, BFF’s, a sports hero, world tragedy, a war hero, life altering decision, a community bonded, domestic violence and above all Love and Family.

I’m not lying when I say everyone should read this story.  It is so much more than I’m describing and it will stop and make you think about your life and how you want to live it.

Amy has a way of grabbing a hold of you, pulling you in and not letting you go until she has changed your heart, body, and soul.  Thank you, Amy, for your words.  I look forward to your next book.

About the Book:

“Ambrose Young was beautiful. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She’d been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have…until he wasn’t beautiful anymore.

Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl’s love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior’s love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.”

Two of my favorite Quotes:

“This last year I’ve felt like one of those snowflakes we used to make in school.  The one where you fold the paper a certain way and then keep cutting and cutting until the paper is shredded.  That’s what I look like, a paper snowflake.  And each hole has a name.  And nobody, not you, not me, can fill the holes that someone else has left.  All we can do is keep each other from falling in the holes and never coming out again.”

“True beauty, the kind that doesn’t fade or wash off, takes time.  It takes pressure.  It takes incredible endurance.  It is the slow drip that makes the stalactite, the shaking of the Earth that creates mountains, the constant pounding of the waves that breaks up the rocks and smooths the rough edges.  And from the violence, the furor, the raging of the winds, the roaring of the waters, something better emerges, something that would otherwise never exit.”

Invincible Summer by Seth King

invincible summer

Amazing, Brilliant, Heartwarming, Touching, Uplifting, Loving and “Weirdly and totally Seth King.”  Love is everything.  Love is then. Love is now. Love lives forever and ever and ever.  If you enjoyed The Summer Remains then you will absolutely “love” Invincible Summer.   (Release Date Nov 17, 2015)

My Five Star Review:

I was extremely lucky and grateful to have received and advanced reader copy of Invincible Summer.  To me this book was a continuation of Summer Johnson and Cooper Nichols story so, if you haven’t read The Summer Remains I would highly recommend you do.

My review will not give you any specifics about Invincible Summer, however, at the end of this post I will share with you a few of my favorite quotes.  (So there is your spoiler warning.)

This book was unlike anything I have ever read and it’s something everyone needs to experience with a completely open mind and open heart.  Many reviewers before me have said, “This book is not what you think it will be.”  And they are absolutely correct.  It was much, much more then what I thought it would be.  It touched my heart and deep down into my soul, and healed it just a little bit but enough to make a difference.  Seth’s “weirdly” ideas and visions helped me in ways I will never be able to repay.  His writing was filled with so much emotion, I physically felt it in every word I read.  It was refreshing and wonderful all at the same time even when I needed to grab a tissue or two.

One of my favorite things about The Summer Remains was all the lyrics Seth included in that book.  (Lyrics he wrote himself.)  In Invincible Summer I absolutely loved all the poems and of course Seth wrote all of those.

Invincible Summer is the ending or maybe not ending to an amazing love story that will stay with me until the end of time.  Thank you Seth for giving me your words and taking me on this journey with you.

Keep Writing/Keep Reading – janisf

About the Book:

~We all remember our first love, that one affair that took custody of your heart and never really let it go. Readers around the world were touched by The Summer Remains, a heartbreaking and inspiring novel about one of these romances – but Cooper Nichols, the enigmatic young man at the center of the novel, was largely silent on the matter. Until now.

“I just can’t believe it’s over between you guys,” my best friend said as we walked down the pier. “You two were supposed to last forever.”

I stared out at the blue sea. “Oh, trust me, it’s not over. I am going to see that girl’s face in every crowd I look into, forever. And maybe a few forevers after that…”

And so begins the tale of young writer Cooper Nichols. Left in ruins after a tragic summer romance, Cooper is afraid the sun may have set on him for good – until his mother discovers a copy of Cooper’s journal he kept of that summer. As he reluctantly slips back into his own past in the pages of his notebook, Cooper starts to rethink everything he thought he knew about life, death, and all the love that can bloom in between – and what follows is a thrilling and breathtaking journey back to joy that will sink into you and stay there for the long haul.
Illuminating, romantic and soul-stirring, Invincible Summer is a testament to the miraculous power of love, in all its immortal glory and everlasting majesty. If you have ever found yourself drifting back to a long-lost romance during a quiet moment, prepare to be pulled under all over again.
“That one summer. Everyone’s got one, that fleeting season that rearranged you and imprinted itself onto your soul forever. You were mine. I swear I’ll never forget your hazel eyes. I swear I’ll never forget those few months when the winds roared. I’ll always think of you that way. And if you can, please come back to me. At the end of the day I’m just a boy who wants to get back to his first love, and I miss you. Just find a way back, please. I’ll be waiting.
Until then, I’ve got nothing…”~

My Favorite Quotes:

“is it so hard to let yourself love

to push out all the monsters in your head and stand tall and say, you know what, I am worthy of this, and I’m gonna do this even if it hurts, even if I wake up one day hating the world for introducing me to something so magnificent and then snatching it away again

and then you do it

and you wonder

why in the hell you’d waited so long”

“It’s not lost on me that I am probably not even fit to be around people yet.  Grief grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go, and it is everywhere and everything.”

Swim towards your sharks, I think as I walk home.  That’s something Summer did.  She ran straight for what scared her, even when it was a mistake.”

“Did da Vinci use words to express all the thought and all the emotion and all the love that exist in a human’s eyes?  No.  Some stories are told with words, that is true.  Others are told with a paintbrush.  But the best ones are told with love.”

“Love is a force brighter and more powerful than the largest sun in the universe.  It is what we were created to do.”
